From articles about the artists:
ìAll artistic trends nowadays have equal civil rights; every artist
has a right to work in any chosen style and present to the public his works,
created in accordance with his tastes and ideals. But equality of civil
rights does not imply equality of esthetic values. There are art phenomena
that we can consider fundamental or incidental, principal or secondary,
fruitful or futile, belonging to fundamental art trends or attesting to
superficial ones. So it seems that in the diversity and chaos of todayís
art life, the most significant are those which derive from the great traditions
of the classical art of the past, from the evergreen tree of life, from
the realistic fundamentals of art.î
V. Vanslov Harmony of contrasts. Russian Art of the second half
of the 20-th century.
ìThis time the ìSchool of Russian Realismî exhibition at the Future
Classics Gallery presents a young artist who continues the traditions of
Russian realistic school of painting of the 18th-19th centuries. A graduate
of the most prestigious art institutes, Dimitry Shmarin, in his work relies
on famous names and examples: K. Brullov, V. Surikov, I. Repin.î
Mikhail Sidlin Domovoi 1996 ?5
«Without hiding my personal, passionate desire to find the ideals
of the painter Surikov, I dare mention the works of Dimitry ShmarinÖ I
would like to call attention to the refined nature of theyoung painter's
soul and eye. This is also evident in his portrayal of faces and his ability
to create a system of images using the state of surrounding nature
and man's immersion in it as well as in the sensitivity to the loftiness
of the words and ideas which must resound in a painting.»
