After talking with Bobby Seehorn tonite, I left a

phone msg on your cell phone with the following info:

Shanda (Seehorn) Navarro received a msg from Mei today

(Monday). Larry died from heart failure Sunday

(yesterday) in the hospital.

Bob told me that he would call Mei tomorrow w/the

assistance of a Chinese engineer at Loral to

translate. I asked him to get info only, not to press

for Larry's remains, to express the family's concern

for her. We can talk about later, at a later

I will stay in touch by email/phone. I was hoping I

could work with you and others (maybe Kevin

Fitzgibbons and Steve Michaelson) to write a fitting

obituary. I had already talked to Lloyd Seehorn about

Firstly, let me apologize for the delay in my posting news. Partially, it was due to being disappointed and distressed at the situation in Nanning. Mostly, it was finding a way to gather my thoughts, and to be as objective as possible, without seeming adversarial to Mei, and her determination to keep Larry's body somewhat functioning, regardless of little or no hope for cognitive action in the future for him. Larry is in a Persistent Vegetative State. I can understand how she can think that his eyes are following you, especially if the doctors at the hospital are not being honest with her. Yet, Mei admitted (I think) that the doctors told her there is no chance he will ever speak, hear or see again - but in spite of that - she wants to hope for a series of miracles.

I asked Mei to change the treatment to 'comfort only' but she refused. I offered to 'be the one' instructing the hospital, with her only needing to tell them to listen to me [about Larry's clear wishes regarding long term life support], but she decided to not take me up on that offer.

Since I am of the opinion that Larry is 'no longer there', it made it easier for me personally to not have a conflict with her, but only to try to educate her to the reality of the situation. After many hours of discussion(s), she indicated tearfully to me that she would consider moving him to 'Comfort' in another 4 months, totaling 6 months, if her miracles have not occurred. I gave her $1,000 of the $1,800 I had to give from myself and the 'Friends', and will send the balance once I return to the states. Received an additional $200 from John Seehorn in the meantime, so there is an even $1000 left. I have no idea how Mei thinks she will manage to pay for this long term vegetative life support. I was told she decided to sign papers giving her and Larry's beautiful apartment over to Dr. Lei, in order to get the hospital and Dr. Lei's continued 'Support'. Although I personally think that is completely reprehensible of Dr. Lei, and it will still not cover anywhere near a total of 6 months ICU life support - I must respect Mei's decision to virtually and literally give up everything she can in order to preserve her hope, and prove her love, for Larry.

Any thoughts or suggestions about the situation will be appreciated from you. I am terribly sorry for Larry's family, and friends, with this lack of closure. It was not for a lack of trying.

Below is a note from John Romero in response to my last message. He mentions Gabreal sending a report. Gabreal sent a message to my brother Bob. He asked that Bob provide a report based on a communication the two of them have had regarding Gabreal’s very recent visit to Nanning.

Gabreal & Max and I spent lots of time with Mei and gave her lots of reasons to do what Larry would of wanted with the same things. She loves him and wants him to get well. We all know that will not happen things are much the same with Larry he has not improved since I saw him last month.

Gabreal will give you all his report on Larry. He has to get settled he is traveling at the present.

Report from Nanning by Bob Seehorn, based on conversations with Gabreal Franklin.

Last week Gabreal made a side trip to Nanning during his work in Asia. He visited Larry in the hospital. He noted that Larry was relatively unresponsive. When Mei is in the room she sometimes stimulate a response by various actions such as opening the eyelids His eyes move under this stimulus. She felt that his eyes were following her movement. When Gabreal did the same action he noted that the eyes move in the same way but they were not following anyone's movements.

Gabreal had a lengthy conversation with Mei. He pointed out that it would not be just one miracle but many miracles for a recovery. All these miracles would have to take place and his mind would need to recover as well. He was not able to convince Mei to follow Larry desires. She is convinced that he will recover.

He asked that I pass along his sincere condolences to the family that Larry will remain in this state for some time.

Gabreal found it very distressing with all the IV that are in place to keep Larry body alive. He is convinced that Larry is not reacting in a cognitive way to the actions taking place around him.

Before leaving he gave some of the money that he has collected to Mei. He indicated that he would wire the rest of the money directly to the hospital.

The following is an email from Mei to Bob Seehorn. Mei asked that her words be forwarded to all of Larry's family and relatives.

First of all I want to thank you, also to your birthers and sisters and so many friends whoever contribute to Larry for pay his hospital bill. respectfully Greetings and obeisance to you and all of our friends!

In the last ten days of June Gabreal has sent $250(USD) to me by WESTERN UNION. After that friends and you has transfer $800(USD) to the hospital, and then you yourself send another $200(USD)by wire, till the July you has sent $1250(USD), all these money has pay to the hospital.

In July 27th my children and friends, and I has fundraising 10000 yuan to pay Larrys' hospital bill, the lady doctor make me sign an agreement of pay the debt in her office. In that case, I have to sign my name in the paper as I aggree to set my son's house as mortagage for the debt. Since Larry very sick such as he in dangers, my heart feelings is heaviness and down. Suffering and I living everyday with tears, I very need the comfort and supports from Larrys' children, family members, mentally conciliative is in need. But there's many different opinion appears. Therefore I am despond and keep silence, I follow Gods' arrangement. In my position I definitely know that it will cause me owe others a lot of money, it will cause me lose the house. this coming days I am sick, too.my heart is as hurt as prickly.

I do know that's because you don't understand Larrys' state of his illness. He has not apoplexy. No cephalitis now. The EGG point out he is just cerebral abnormity, just the infection cause the pyrexia. doctor done a good job to save him. He has go through for 9 times almost die! it's must the providence! Larry has passed his 66 years birthday, although he is still live by oxygen supply equipment so far, that's because he is very sick and he has no eat any food and his stomach is empty. He is very weak, and he only eat liquid food. I also send soup to him twice for a day. He's digestive system can work well. Now the reason why he relay on the oxygen supply equipment is he is too weak, if Larry can eat well for a pitch of time and he's body can be comeback and vitality. He has steady blood pressure and he can excretion every day. His heart rate is between 98 to 108,that's very well, he has no fever and his eyes is brightness and moist.

Beside the expenses for medicine, he need to spend 150 to 160 yuan each day for his nourishment. I also spend 200 yuan each day to got him some Chinese medicinal materials as aweto, glossy ganoderma powder. I braise them with duck and I ask nurse to feed him the soup twice everyday past the pipe to his stomach.

Weather in Naning is either too hot or rainning, some times will over 38 C. But no matter rain or cool, I just ride my electricity bike everyday twice and send soup to Larry, I have a faith for he can get well, I understand pain, suffer and sadness, tears can't save my husband, Larry's will is very strong, I need to self-support, indeed no metter how difficulty my situation is, I will not collapse. I have a faith of love. I can be adamancy. I want to save him and conquer many difficultys. My bigest effort.Larry has not let down of my effort.his face has the color back now, and I am massage for him, speak to him. I ask him to move his eyes if he can hear what I am say, or you can move your lips, so I understand that you can fellow what I am say. He has try his best to have a deep breath and move his lips. He has tear and everyday whenever we stay together he always weep, I am his good wife, he will not leave me. The true love always show up when in the most difficulty time. Two souls become one. Our love has touched God, and that's why I keep going to healing my husband. It's my responsibility as his wife. I am sure Larry will wake up and I believe that in God's help a miracle will appeared. I am pride for Larry, all his life, in his old age he has a woman as I, to do everything whatever it takes for him and seen him more importance than her life. With a sincerely loving heart. He will be satisfaction! he will be conquer the serious illness and recovery and wake up soon!

I see you spend a lot of time for you love uncle Larry, although we have different opinion, but we all love Larry. I am always make a clear distinction between right and wrong, so I will not censure anyone for whoever has different opinion of heal Larry.comity is good, because we are the family. We are Larry's relatives and good friends. Please forward the letter to Larry Lee Seehorns'children, relatives and good friends. Tell them everything about me and Larry. I am appreciate and thank you!

Included in the others are some who insisted that any money sent go directly to Larry’s care.

I have agreed that money sent to me will be sent directly to the hospital to reduce his dept. Larry did not want to be in dept. The present treatment plan has resulted in a situation that he will die with a large debt.

Unless one of Larry’s friends unexpectedly sends me a check after July 28 I expect this will be the last payment that I will make. It will be a small amount of his dept but I am happy to give it in his memory.

Larry did not want to be in debt. He left the United States to find a place where his income would allow him ndependence.

The last time I saw Larry was a few months ago and as I said good-bye he was looking forward to going home to you.

We all have limited time on earth and I am thankful for the time I had with Larry.

In the recent weeks I have spent a lot of time thinking about Larry and trying to determine what his condition is.

I went to see dear Larry, in Nanning. He was gone. His 'old' body was breathing - assisted, but it wasn't Larry.

Chris Ammen has done a wonderful job (and saved a LOT of time) setting up a proper ListManagement for emails to Larrys group.
Also, on behalf of all of Larry's family and friends, I would like to thank the kind people we have recently met from Larry's community in China - who have spent time, energy and care in getting reports and information to all of us - May, of course, John, Max, Joe, Stewart, and others, both expatriates and Chinese.
