Footnote a year later:Sep 3 2007. Nothing clear was ever established with the hospital. It seems to have been a game they were playing to try to 'milk money' and build a large debt life supporting a case that was not to recover. So many friends of Larry rallied to see what we could do... Some gave some hundreds of dollars... looked for ways and hopeful remedies - 2nd opinions, Mayo clinic, I even went to Nanning, gave Mae the little money, NOT the hospital, that friends had forwarded. I tried to understand what was the actual story- about how much of her apartment she might have given the doctor, 'on the side', to try and assure Larry's recovery... There was really nothing more any of us could have done. Except miss him, and be happy we knew him. gabreal Sep 3 2007.
During Mid August, while visiting Nanning, China, it became ever more apparent that Larry's chance to "Come Back" was infinately small, at best. Visits with his body at the hospital did not seem like really visiting him. But I DID feel his presence at English Corner, with all the kids he had tutured, and discussed topics in English with them. I felt him in the friends he had made there in China, and the family level of friends he and Mei had established there. I was consoled feeling and seeing how he could have been happy there. And how he had touched the lives of so many people in Nanning. I was disconsoled at the cost of the continued medical care after the first week, and continuing for all these many weeks/ Earlier - "False Hope" messages from China: As of July 15, 2006 ... with

As of July 13, 2006 the hospital bill has totaled about $14,000 US. Regarding funds sent already, we are (still) awaiting confirmation of proper credit. Upon receiving that confirmation, the remaining funds can then immediately be sent. Unfortunately, the 'bookeeping' with the hospital has been difficult, but the funds received to date has asisted, and will soon be assisting more, in getting his expenses covered. His care is continuing in an unfettered manner, in spite of the bill situation. A Chinese judge - who is a friend of Larry, Max, Bob Seehorn, Mei, and (I believe) Lynn - one of Larry's nieces, are all doing their best to assure us all the bill is fair, reasonable, and that payments to date are being properly applied to his account.
As of JULY 3, 2006 we have against approximately $10,000 in bills, already raised : $890 sent June 27; $1000 received June 29 and 30 and another $150 July 2nd totals $2.050 from the friends! Some folks were very generious, some sent just what they could - and Larry is getting better care and far less burden on the family! Thank you all so much who have thought to contribute. June 28 Update: We now have a
direct line of transfer to Mei in China, and (thanks to Bob Seehorn) one
also directly to the Hospital. Successful Wire transfers to both.

In an effort to put everyone at ease regarding assurance that every penny raised goes directly to Larry's bills, our current contribution paradigm is as follows: Please send an email to BOTH
Gabreal Franklin AND Bob Seehorn, specifying the amount you can afford.
We will serve as a defacto 'Checks and Balances' (pun intended for Larry's
benefit), each keeping track of the amounts and contributors.
