Steve "Carisma" Engel concieved, engineered, drove
daily this custom 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air
station wagon and was constructed
at the Campos Auto Body Shop in Castroville, CA supervised
and assisted by the owner Lucas Padillo. A two (2) year project created
this 4 wheel drive Hot Rod
with classic silver exterior and white roof paint, assembled ground
up, custom... finished in 1992.
I've been the owner for 5 years.
* 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 4 door station wagon custom
mounted onto a
1987 short wheelbase 4 wheel drive pick-up truck
chassis.
* Axles front and rear were narrowed to the original
1957 Chevrolet Bel Air station wagon width.
* Wheelbase on the 1987 Chevy short wheelbase 4x4 pick-up truck have
been shortened
to 115 inches, the stock Chevrolet Bel Air station
wagon width.
* Engine is a 1987 Chevrolet Dual Tuned Port, fuel injected, 350 cubic
inch displacement
boasting 300+ horsepower; manufactured for Corvettes
and Z-28 Cameros.
* Mileage is 50,700.
* Transmission is a 1987 Chevrolet 700R overdrive automatic with column
shifter.
* 4 wheel drive with freewheel front hubs.
* Shocks are Rancho series 9000 Infinity Air System with multiple settings
controllable
from the driver's dashboard with the settings gauge
mounted on the dash.
* Steering is the original 1987 Chevrolet 4X4 truck's, having a tilt
steering wheel column,
cruise control, and is equiped with a Rancho steering
dampener shock.
* Brakes on front and rear wheels are heavy duty disc.
* Tires are Goodyear Wranglers 31x10.5x15R.
* Suspension front sway bars are original 4x4 heavy duty.
* Fuel tank from a 1986 Chevy Blazer holds 26 gallons and is mounted
with a
protective cover plate between the frame rails.
* Seats for driver and passenger are individual bucket style, maroon
heavy vinyl
with 6 way electric adjustment settings and have sheepskin
covers.
* Seat in the back is the bench type and folds down flat.
* Upholstery is silver grey cloth, grey carpet and maroon heavy vinyl.
* Dashboard, though original looking, has Dakota Digital Instruments
gauges, additional
back-up to the digital gauges are the traditional volt
and oil pressure gauges mounted on the dash.
* Locks and windows are electric; controlable from the driver's door.
* Console in maroon vinyl divides driver and passenger seats as an
arm rest featuring; 4 inset cup holders,
inset CD storage box and lifting up the arm rest top reveals
an ample storage container.
Also, the console conceals while allowing E-Z access to
the engine's computer.
* Air conditioning is Classic Air recently converted to the RU134A
the new modern A/C standard.
* Radiator has front mounted 2 push/pull thermostat sensitive fans
to prevent overheating.
* Stereo system; JVC Kameleon AM/FM/CD in dash deck, Yamaha amplifier,
10 CD changer,
front midrange woofers with seperate tweeters and
full range 6"x9" rear speakers mounted in rear doors.
