Nickolai Bogomolov
Was born in 1956 in Vologda, Russia. I have been living in St.Petersburg
since 1957.
In 1979 I graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Technology
and then worked there as a research scientist till 1989. Later I terminated
the scientific career (though rather successful) and concentrated on painting
exclusively. I have begun drawing back at school and, though I entered
a technical university, it happened so that I have been painting more and
more from year to year... At a certain moment I realized that it couldn't
go along with scientific research. An artist grew inside me like a tree,
gradually filling the entire inner space. The first show of my paintings
and graphics took place in the Institute of Technology in 1981. Since then
I participated in 45 exhibitions(8 solo) . In the period between 1986 and
1991 they were mostly the shows organized by TEII (the Partnership of Experimental
Fine Arts) based in St.Petersburg (for those who are not familiar with
TEII: it embodied the avantgard wing of Soviet art in those days). In 1987
I became a member of "Ostrov" ("Island") Group but in late 1989 I understood
that to preserve individuality was much more important than to manifest
jointly. In 1990 I took part in a big project "All for One Earth" that
included group
art shows in St.Petersburg (Leningrad then) and San Francisco
as well as painting a mural on a five-story building in Leningrad.
Between 1990 and 1997 I exhibited my works mostly on the US Pacific
Coast, both in galleries and art festivals.
In 1995-1998 in collaboration with Urisman Fine Arts I organized
a series of shows of St.Petersburg artists on the US Pacific Coast.
Few years ago I was absorbed by a new occupation - computer graphics
and since then I work both in fine and computer art.
