Here are some relevant Historical facts,
of something that happened around this time of year,
but 75 years ago.
Hitler Imprisons Niemöller
Niemöller had once again delivered a rebellious sermon in Dahlem,
Germany - that upset Hitler...
[as had many other of the more evangelistic and conservative Lutheran
Pastors and Priests];
Immediately following his delivery of what is written below, this and
transcripts of his tapped telephone conversations were presented to Hitler.
In a bellow, Hitler ordered Niemöller to be put in a concentration
camp and, since he had proven himself to be incorrigible, kept there for
life. Many Pastors and Priests were then sent to camps for their dissidence
and by 1938 the country had been declared
"free of the church." (p. 98)
Excerpt
from "Inside the Third Reich: The Memoirs of Albert
Speer"
Niemöller's famous and oft misquoted statement:
'First they came for the Communists,
but I was not a Communist, so I
said nothing.
Then they came for the Social Democrats,
but I was not a Social Democrat,
so I did nothing.
Then came the trade unionists,
but I was not a trade unionist.
And then they came for the Jews,
but I was not a Jew, so I did little.
Then when they came for me,
there was no one left to stand up for me.'

Then, there was the quote from Leo Tolstoy
that came to mind - that would be so great to apply on a world level...
My piece of bread only belongs to
me
when I know everyone has a piece
of bread
and no one is starving
--
Ah, would that Bush, and Sharon, and Blair, and all our 'Free World'
leaders focus on this
approach as a goal....
