The same minister he has now deposed. He is reportedly "very close to the king."  This army commander ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra [above, left photo, on the right of the photo, with his cabinet] by initiating a military coup Tuesday night in Bangkok.  A few minutes ago, Khun Taksin's offices were circled with tanks, with the military declaring martial law and revoking the constitution. A military spokesman said army Commander-in-Chief Gen. Sondhi Boonyaratkalin would be acting prime minister, and that they fully support the King. We have no word yet on the King's position, but it is said that democracy will be returned after the crisis is over.  Kantawan Poo reported from Bangkok  "Thailand is under revolt by the army". She also reported that the Army has given the country a "day off of work". One way to gain popularity. Martial law is currently (as of this release) in force. Prime Minister Thaksin was in New York at the time his offices were surrounded by the tanks, attending meetings at the United Nations. International Campaign for Tibet played a key role. UPDATE July 18, 2006 From mid July through Early September, Gabreal Franklin with various teams will be filming in MONGOLIA - on a project supporting Tibetan Cultural Center, a project  founded by Taktser Rinpoche and led by the Venrable Arjia Rinpoche,. Following that, filming and projects in China and Thailand  thru early September Mid September will include filming H. H. the Dalai Lama's peace message to the upcoming WORLD PEACE CONFERENCE, and in other various situations during his visit to America. This includes a four camera filming of  teachings in New York sponsored by TIBET HOUSE. June 2006 - Filming His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in Belgium, notably his presentation to Rev. Desmond Tutu with the International Campaign for Tibet.
